The Royal Sovereign AFS-850S Auto Stack Feed Shredder is supposed to offer customers hands-free operation by utilizing patented auto feed technology that is able to automatically feed stacks of paper up to 100 sheets at a time. This machine also accepts staples, paper clips, credit cards and CDs. To prevent jamming the Royal Sovereign AFS-850S automatically reverses itself if the sheet capacity is exceeded.

The Royal Sovereign AFS-850S Auto Stack Feed Shredder has a 4000 sheets per day duty cycle and uses a cross cut cutting pattern to shred documents and deposit the waste into a 10.6 gallon wastebasket. There are not many reviews online for the Royal Sovereign AFS-850S Auto Stack Feed Shredder and unfortunately for Royal Sovereign the few reviews that are online are incredibly bad. This machine received an average user rating of 1.4 out of a possible 5 stars.

The only review we found online that was not a 1 star rating said that “this shredder is quiet, the auto feed feature is desirable, and the paper is well shredded.” The problem is, after just two days of use they started running into issues. The first problem this reviewer ran into was that the basket could be fully installed but the unit will display a red light that says “check basket” and the machine will not run with this indicator on. This reviewer also said that “the sheet feeder tends to catch sheets a bit more on the right side than on the left” pulling sheets in unevenly causing them to stick and not be fed into the machine. When this happens you have to pull the sheets out and feed them back in so a machine that is supposed to be “automatic” is only automatic some of the time.

None of the other reviews we found online were as nice as the one above. A number of people are calling this “by far the worst shredder or any other office equipment that I have ever bought.” It jams very often causing a lot of time to be wasted fixing the jams. The Royal Sovereign AFS-850S is not cheap, the lowest price we found online was at Amazon.com and at that site it sells for around $440 and one reviewer said that he has used shredders that cost $19.99 that worked far better than this one.

For something in the $400-$500 price range you would expect to have a quality piece of equipment that works the way it is advertised but we did not find one review online that says that it works well. Every single review we found was from people that were very unhappy and warning people not to waste their time with Royal Sovereign.
